Where To Stay When Visiting: CHARLESTON, S.C.

HISTORY. BEACHES. AMAZING ARCHITECTURE. FANTASTIC FOOD. BEAUTIFUL PLANTATIONS. The list goes on and on…the entire country (and world) have caught on…Charleston is a pretty special place to visit. One of the things that makes this area so unique is that every week, all year long there are events to check out, things happening….its a beautiful and exciting place. It appeals to business travelers, wedding parties, families, honeymooners, adventures, history buffs, beach goers…there’s a lot to experience and enjoy in our lovely city! And the fact the airport is only 15 minutes from downtown makes it easily accessible.

Every month I receive several email requests from my blog and Instagram followers, who are seeking recommendations of where to stay, what to see & do and where to eat. I am always happy to help offer my suggestions to help visitors navigate their time and experience! I thought it would be helpful to put together a list of some of my favorite places in Charleston and highlight what I think makes them unique and special! I have personally stayed at each of these properties and give them my highest recommendations and hope that you will consider one of these properties when booking your next trip to Charleston! This introduction article offers an overview of the 5 properties on my list. Each week following this kick off, I will post a separate more detailed article about each property with more pictures and information about each property. I hope you enjoy your stay in our small slice of east coast paradise!!!

This hotel has many features that make it the perfect stay for a wide variety of travelers and is conveniently located in historic downtown. The property has over 400+ rooms, suites and club level accommodations, along with a conference center, spa with health club, infinity salt water pool with retractable roof and its own poolside patio bar. The property has 4 restaurants and bars and several on site shops (Gucci, St. John, Louis Vuitton and more). Every inch of the property is majestic, beautiful and elegant! Belmond Charleston Place is in the heart of the city and walking distance to countless art galleries, antique shops, restaurants and shops. One of my personal favorite amenities of this property is visiting the spa and its team of seasoned professionals…ask about the Intracueticals Rejuvenate Restoring Oxygen Treatment (it’s an amazing treatment)!

Nestled on the harbor of Patriots Point are 10 lovely cottages tucked away from the daily hustle and bustle of downtown. These sweet cottages each offer: 2 bedroom, 3 bath floor plans with a shared centrally located full kitchen, living room and dining area. Each cottage has a screened in private porch, hammock, lounge furniture and pool access. Only minutes from downtown and area beaches this sweet spot is the perfect place to decompress and escape while getting lost in a book and taking in a beautiful sunrise while listening to the soft sound of waves lapping onto the shore. It is the great retreat for people looking for a good mix of close proximity to area attractions and yet also seeking relaxation and laid back comfort. I really enjoyed the beauty of the harbor and never-ending supply of yummy treats in the clubhouse lounge offered all day long!

Every inch of this boutique hotel is a lovely mix of history and style celebrating the elements of classic southern hospitality in the modern age. The property consists of 5 buildings that house: 54 suites, a restaurant, rooftop bar, coffee shop, library, outdoor rooftop pool, spa and mercantile shop (with some of the most unique and sweetest treasures to splurge on and take home with you)! The chic style of the hotel is unlike anything else in Charleston. The property is located in the middle of downtown and most area attractions, shops and restaurants are walking distance from the hotel. This property is perfect for the traveler looking to stay in style, a romantic escape or someone who appreciates detail. I personally love their resident artist program that is celebrated and showcased all throughout the property…its very cool!
