#TPBTH Meet: Holly McGetrick
Name, craft/industry/blog/passion, most known handle/website:
Holly McGetrick/diy decor/retail/fashion/Dandy Boutique/Vintage/vintage inspired anything/working on house projects/my store- @dandyboutique/ dandyboutique.com
How did you get started?
I have always loved crafting and making things ever since I was young. In college I got back into it and started making jewelry and then I started making vintage inspired bridal headpieces, my boyfriends mother would send me vintage jewelry and beads and I would incorporate them into the pieces. I had a small little studio on the third floor up on king where my business slowly started to grown and develop into clothing, and accessories.
Who or what influenced you the most as you were developing your craft?
My store and my personal style and home are very retro. I didn’t really know a lot about vintage until I did my internship at a vintage clothing showroom in L.A. (Clever Vintage Clothing). I fell in love with the vintage lifestyle. We would go to trunk shows and huge thrift warehouses, it was such a different style that I never knew existed! When I came back I started thrifting, trying to find fun vintage stores and really incorporated that style into my life. Now I have pieces from all over in our home and my store is based on vintage inspired lifestyle!
What inspires you?
People that don’t let the day to day dull their spirit. I have always been bad about striving for that next goal and not just taking a moment to enjoy life. People that passionately and enthusiastically live life to the fullest are complete rockstars to me and something I want to strive to be more like!
5 words that describe who you are:
Enthusiastic, Determined, Lover of vintage, Harry Potter Nut, Thrifter
When you were a kid what did you want to be when you grew up?
Fashion Designer and a professional tennis player.
I am very fortunate to be doing what I have dreamed about doing for half my life, but I would love to be able to take it to the next level. Travel the world for new clothing lines, collaborate with small business from all over the country, and maybe even develop a line of clothing specifically for Dandy!
3 things you aspire to be or do:
1-take a moment to enjoy the great things and people I have in my life, 2-meditate more, 3-Worry less, a lot less.
(Fill in the blank) I appreciate_________ in my life, because__________.
(the amazing, supportive people), (they are truly the only thing that matters)
What was one of the hardest lessons or toughest obstacles you had to overcome?
To be patient. Everything comes in time. You need to work hard, put your time in and continue to believe in the dreams you have. If it is worth it and you want it bad enough it will happen. Trying to force things when you aren’t ready and it’s not the right time is pretty futile. This is true for me even now. Sometimes I am like “we need to do this now” and it is not the right time and I just have to slow my roll and realize that is okay if everything doesn’t happen right then and there!
Advice for someone who is looking to begin a new hobby/job/life pursuit:
Choose something that you are genuinely interested in. There is really no point if you aren’t passionate about it.
Something your followers would be surprised to learn about you:
I love mud runs, Spartan races, and obstacle course races. I have trained for about four of them since I started at my gym, Crescent Fitness, about 3 years ago. It feels so great once you cross the finish line after training for so long!
